We got to chat with heartthrob, Paul Rey and he spilled on all things from his “Good As Hell” music video to his song writing process.

Popstar: You have a very unique sound, which artists inspire you?

Paul: A lot of different artists! I listened to so much different music growing up, anything from Michael Jackson, to Bob Marley and The Beatles, to James Blake! Music in general pretty much inspires me.

Popstar: We love the “Good As Hell” music video, what was it like shooting that?

Paul: It was a lot of fun, I hadn’t been to Brooklyn before that day actually so, we were running around all over Brooklyn, even on the Brooklyn bridge, it was like multitasking! It was like sightseeing at the same time as shooting the video, it was intense. We did about eight different locations on the day of shooting so it was an experience, really the coolest, it was really good and it was amazing.

Popstar: Do you have a favorite song off your EP?

Paul: It changes all the time, every song is personal but I would say at the moment it’s “Blue Sky,” the acoustic version because it’s so honest and raw.

Popstar: What’s the song writing process like for you?

Paul: I usually write in the studio in the session, it’s usually me and my executive producer that’s in the studio, John Alexis. We’re usually the ones that do all the music, like 90% of the music, so it’s always discussing something, having some input, or I get to the studio and have some different thoughts going around. We discuss whatever might come to mind with the music and then we try to make a song out of it and see what comes out.

Popstar: You have a lot of awesome label mates on Epic, anyone you want to collaborate with?

Paul: Oh, Outkast would be a dream come true without a doubt! I don’t know what it would really sound like but it would be great. Any Swedish collaborations would be cool, it would be fun.

Popstar: What’s coming up for you for the rest of the year music wise?

Paul: Just steadily working in the studio making music. I just released the EP which I’m very excited about so let’s see how the people react to it so far the reaction has been amazing. But I’m just excited to see how it goes.

We are so excited to see what the future holds for Paul! In the mean time you can get his new EP, “Good As Hell” on iTunes now!
